VOYA’s Teen Poetry Contest 2014
This year, VOYA’s annual teen poetry contest attracted 143 entries from around the country. With a diverse geographic collection came an equally diverse range of topics. From soccer to lazy summer afternoons, from busy city streets to an underwater tableau, from falling in love to psychological horror, this year’s entries expressed the gamut of human emotion and experience. New this year were several entries expressing what it is like to be a young adult in a world fully ensconced in technology. The winning entries represent feelings about the past, the present, and the future, about love and hate and stress, about honor and dreams. These five winning poems challenge readers to feel and think about all that is important in a young adult’s life.
