Laini Bostian has been working with teens in various capacities for the past sixteen years, the past ten of which have been in a library setting. She has been employed at the Culpeper County Library since 2008, where she extended teen programming from one program per quarter to three programs per month. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art/Visual, a Masters in Elementary Education, and a Masters in Library Science and Information Studies. She is a member of the Healthy Culpeper Teen Empowerment Coalition, comprised of representatives from various youth serving agencies, a representative from the local school district, and a representative from the town police department. This goal of the group is to make sure that there are prevention programs in place to help provide an outlet for teens who may be struggling with emotional distress.
Librarians across the United States are doing great programming for teens at their libraries. The goal for “Get with the Program” is to share information about programs that were successful at various libraries, and to provide contact information for further resources. Bostian will begin her column in February 2017. Contact Bostian at email@example.com.
